Mash Turf in Spud Arena: paint the floor in your team colour

Mash Turf is a team mode in Spud Arena: red against blue, up to four players on each side. Instead of counting knockouts, it counts floor. Every shot that lands on the floor leaves a splat of mashed potato in the shooter's team colour, strawberry pink for red and blueberry blue for blue, and the team covering more of the arena when the timer runs out wins.

How the score works

The floor of each arena is divided into squares of about one square metre. A splat colours the squares it covers, and painting over the other team's colour turns those squares into yours. The score at the top of the screen shows the share of the floor each team covers, as a percentage. The tops of raised platforms and of low obstacles such as crates and barrels count as floor too. Splats on walls and on the sides of objects are only decoration and do not count.

Weapons and splats

Every gun paints. Fast weapons leave many small splats, the Oven Rifle leaves wider ones, and grenades and the Tater Rocket paint a large circle where they burst. Melee tools do not paint. Spare ammunition never runs out in this mode, although magazines still need to be reloaded.

Knockouts

Knockouts give no points in Mash Turf. A player who is knocked out is back after three seconds, and the spot where it happened gets a splat in the other team's colour. Stopping an opponent is still useful, because a player who is waiting to come back cannot paint.

Who wins

When time runs out, the team with the larger share of the floor wins. The scoreboard and the results rank players by how much floor they painted, and the player who painted the most gets the Top Painter award.

Tips

  • Paint the floor in front of you as you move. Aiming slightly downward covers the most ground.
  • Spread out. Two teammates painting the same corner waste time.
  • Go back to areas the other team has painted over, especially in the middle of the arena.
  • Save grenades for large open areas, where they cover the most squares.

The game modes overview describes the other modes, and the weapons guide explains each weapon.
