Spud Arena guide for parents: safety, chat, advertising and privacy
This page summarises the information parents and guardians ask about most often. The full details are in the privacy information.
Content
Spud Arena is a game in which cartoon potatoes compete in a toy arena. A player who is knocked out returns to the arena a few seconds later. Nobody is hurt and nothing is destroyed; the game describes this only as being "knocked out". The visual style is based on soft toys.
Accounts
The game has no accounts. There is no registration, no password and no email address. Each player receives an anonymous guest number and a generated potato name. The game never asks for a real name, a phone number or an address, and there is no place to enter such information.
Chat
Chat consists of a fixed list of friendly phrases, such as "Nice shot!" and "Follow me!". There is no text input, so players cannot write messages of their own, and there are no private messages between players. Players who disturb others can be excluded temporarily.
Age screen
Before the first match, the game asks for a birth year. Only the result is stored on the device, as "child" or "general"; the year itself is neither stored nor transmitted. Players under 13 are asked to read the welcome notes together with a parent or guardian and to play only with their agreement.
Advertising
Advertising finances the game servers. There are three kinds: small banners in the lobby, a short advertisement between some rounds, and optional reward videos that a player may choose to watch in exchange for a heavy weapon for one round. Watching reward videos is never required. Advertisements are delivered by Google and are shown without personalisation to child players.
Currency and purchases
Coins are earned by playing and spent on cosmetic items inside the game. Coins cannot be bought with real money or exchanged for it, and no payment method is connected to the game. Children cannot spend money in Spud Arena.
Stored data
The following is stored against the anonymous guest number: the generated name, match history, round results and statistics, coins, owned cosmetic items and achievements. Chat, real names, email addresses and IP addresses are not stored in player records. Guest records that have not been used for 180 days are deleted automatically.
Screen time
Rounds last three and a half minutes, with a short break between them. The welcome notes remind players to take breaks and point out that the game contains flashing and moving images.
